Workshop: "Simple TESOLutions: Student engagement strategies for the classrooms of the future"
On February 28, 2023, around 60 lecturers attended the keynote session titled "𝐒𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐓𝐄𝐒𝐎𝐋𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐦𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞" presented by 𝐌𝐬. 𝐅𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚 𝐖𝐢𝐞𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐜𝐡, co-founder and director of Teacher Development at The Queensland Institute in Brisbane, Australia.
The session focused on practical, low-prep strategies for engaging learners in both physical and virtual classrooms, with a particular emphasis on starting new topics, working with language and pronunciation, and reflecting on learner progress. 𝐌𝐬. 𝐖𝐢𝐞𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐜𝐡 drew upon her extensive experience in language education to share her insights and exchanged ideas with participants from their own teaching experiences.
The session was well-received by the attendees, who praised the engaging ideas shared by 𝐌𝐬. 𝐖𝐢𝐞𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐜𝐡. During the session, speakers also shared their ideas for student engagement in the classroom using the 5 fingers model, and teachers contributed their own ideas about teaching activities and using AI in the classroom in the digital age of learning and teaching. Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Sy, Manager of the Creative Language Center, and Ms. Huynh Thi Nhan Hieu, Leader of the TQM team, joined the session and contributed to the discussions.
Overall, the event was successful and appreciated by the attendees. The Creative Language Center expressed not only its gratitude to 𝐌𝐬. 𝐖𝐢𝐞𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐜𝐡 for sharing her valuable time and expertise but also the hope to join further activities in the future.
